Cebu Itinerary: 3-Day and 5-Day Plans for First-Time Visitors
Planning a trip to Cebu? Here are ready-made 3-day and 5-day itineraries covering Cebu City heritage, the south coast and the northern islands, with budgets.

In this article
The best Cebu itinerary for most first-time visitors is three days covering Cebu City's heritage sites, a south Cebu trip to Moalboal and Kawasan Falls, and a slow beach day. With five days, add Bantayan Island or Malapascua in the north. Below are both plans, day by day, with transport tips and an approximate budget.
Cebu itinerary at a glance
| Day | 3-day plan | 5-day plan |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Cebu City heritage and food | Cebu City heritage and food |
| Day 2 | South Cebu: Moalboal and Kawasan Falls | South Cebu: Oslob, then travel to Moalboal |
| Day 3 | Moalboal morning, return to the city | Kawasan Falls canyoneering, Moalboal sardine run |
| Day 4 | Travel north to Bantayan or Malapascua | |
| Day 5 | Beach day, return to Cebu City |
Day 1: Cebu City heritage and food
Start downtown, where Cebu's Spanish-era history is packed into a few walkable blocks.
- Basilica Minore del Santo Niño: the country's oldest Roman Catholic church site and home of the revered Santo Niño de Cebu.
- Magellan's Cross: in a kiosk beside the Basilica. Entry is free; dress modestly as it is a religious site.
- Fort San Pedro: a small Spanish-era fort near the port, with gardens and walls to explore.
- Colon Street and the old downtown: Colon is often described as the oldest street in the Philippines.
- Afternoon: head uptown to the Taoist Temple in Beverly Hills, then the Temple of Leah or Tops Lookout for views at sunset if you have a car.
- Evening: eat lechon, barbecue with puso at Larsian, or siomai in Tisa.
Day 2 and 3: South Cebu (3-day plan)
Day 2: Moalboal and Kawasan Falls
Leave early from the Cebu South Bus Terminal on a bus bound for Moalboal or Badian, or hire a private van. The trip takes roughly 3 hours, depending on traffic.
- Check in to your accommodation in Moalboal, usually around Panagsama Beach.
- Head to Kawasan Falls in Badian, famous for its turquoise pools, or join a canyoneering tour that ends at the falls. Read our Kawasan Falls canyoneering guide.
- Return to Moalboal for dinner by the sea.
Day 3: Moalboal sardine run and return
Snorkel or dive with the huge schools of sardines just off the shore, and look for sea turtles along the reef. Book a guide if you are not a confident swimmer. After lunch, travel back to Cebu City or to Mactan for your onward flight. See our Moalboal guide.
Days 2 to 5: The 5-day Cebu itinerary
With five days you can explore more of the south and add the northern islands.
Day 2: Oslob, then Moalboal
Many visitors start very early for Oslob on the south-eastern coast, where whale shark watching takes place. It is a popular but debated activity; read about the ethics in our guide to Oslob whale sharks before deciding. Nearby, Tumalog Falls is a pretty curtain-like waterfall. In the afternoon, cross to the west coast and stay in Moalboal.
Day 3: Kawasan and the sardine run
Join a morning canyoneering trip ending at Kawasan Falls, then spend the afternoon snorkelling with the sardines in Moalboal. Rest early; tomorrow is a long travel day.
Day 4: North to Bantayan or Malapascua
Travel back towards Cebu City and continue north. Both islands need a bus or van to a northern port plus a ferry or boat:
| Island | Port | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Bantayan Island | Hagnaya Port, then ferry to Santa Fe | Wide white-sand beaches, relaxed pace |
| Malapascua Island | Maya Port, then boat | Diving, small-island feel |
For Bantayan, follow our guide on how to get to Bantayan Island. Going straight from Moalboal to the north is a very long day, so some travellers stay a night in Cebu City in between.
Day 5: Beach day and return
Enjoy a slow morning on the beach, then head back to Cebu City or Mactan. Allow plenty of time for the bus, ferry and traffic, especially if you have an evening flight. Many travellers prefer to spend an extra night near the airport.
Getting around Cebu
| Transport | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi and ride-hailing | Within Metro Cebu | Convenient; traffic can be heavy |
| Jeepney | Short city trips | Very cheap; learn the routes |
| Provincial bus | South and north Cebu | Cheap, frequent; slower |
| Van for hire | Groups, tight schedules | Flexible; more expensive |
| Ferry and boat | Islands | Weather-dependent |
Travel times stretch during rush hours and holidays, so start long trips early.

When to go
Cebu is a year-round destination, but the drier months from about December to May usually bring calmer seas. January is Sinulog month in Cebu City, which is exciting but crowded. Check PAGASA forecasts before island trips, as boats may be cancelled in bad weather.
