The best time to visit Cebu is generally from January to May, when the weather is drier and seas are calmer for island-hopping and diving. Davao is more flexible: it sits south of the main typhoon belt and has rain spread fairly evenly through the year, so it can be visited almost any month. Plan around festivals like Sinulog in January and Kadayawan in August if you want the party, or avoid those weeks if you want lower prices.

Dry season in Cebu (January to May)

This is Cebu's peak season. Skies are clearer, seas calmer, and outdoor trips to Kawasan Falls, Moalboal, Malapascua and Bantayan are at their best. February and March are often the sweet spot: dry, not yet scorching, and after the Sinulog rush.

Wet season and typhoons (June to December)

Rain usually comes in heavy bursts rather than all-day downpours, and you can still have plenty of sunshine. The main concern is typhoons, which can bring strong winds, flooding and cancelled ferries and flights. Cebu has been hit by powerful late-year storms in the past, such as Typhoon Odette (Rai) in December 2021, so travel insurance and flexible plans are smart in these months. Learn the warning levels in our PAGASA typhoon signals guide.

Best Time to Visit Davao

Davao City's location in southeastern Mindanao keeps it outside the usual paths of most typhoons. Rain is fairly evenly distributed across the year, often as afternoon or evening showers, so there's no strict "wrong" month.

PeriodWhat to expect in Davao
January to AprilOften slightly drier; good for Samal beaches and Mount Apo trips
May to JulyWarm, with regular showers; fruit season begins
AugustKadayawan Festival; durian and fruit in abundance; busy hotels
September to DecemberShowers common; Christmas holiday crowds in December

If you're planning to climb Mount Apo, check trail opening rules and permits in advance, as access can be restricted at times. See our Mount Apo guide, and check the Davao forecast on the weather page.

Crowds and Prices

Hotel rates and airfares climb during Sinulog, Holy Week, Kadayawan, Christmas and long weekends. Popular resorts can sell out weeks or months ahead.

  • For the best deals, travel in the wet-season months outside holidays, accepting some rain.
  • For the best weather in Cebu, aim for February to April, avoiding Holy Week if you dislike crowds.
  • For festivals, book flights and rooms as early as possible.

Use the trip budget calculator to estimate costs for your dates, and see our cheap flights guide.

What to Pack for Each Season

SeasonPack these
Dry season (Cebu, roughly January to May)Sunscreen, hat, light cotton clothes, reef-safe products, refillable water bottle
Wet season (Cebu, roughly June to December)Compact umbrella, light rain jacket, quick-dry clothes, waterproof phone pouch, sandals
Davao, any timeLight layers, umbrella, insect repellent, a warm top for highland trips to Marilog or Mount Apo

Downtown streets can flood quickly in heavy rain, so waterproof sandals are more practical than sneakers during the wet months. If you're heading to the highlands outside Davao City, nights can be surprisingly cool, so bring a light jacket.
