What to expect on the river
After registration and a safety briefing, you'll put on a helmet and life vest and ride a motorbike or van to the jump-off point upriver. From there, the route follows the river through a narrow, jungle-covered canyon with cliffs on both sides and water that ranges from milky turquoise to deep blue.
Along the way you'll:
- Swim and float through calm pools, often letting the current carry you.
- Walk and scramble over rocks and along riverbanks.
- Slide down natural rock chutes into pools.
- Jump from rock ledges of different heights. Lower jumps are a few metres; the highest are much taller and always optional.
- Rest and snack at stops along the river.
The trip ends at the multi-level Kawasan Falls, where you can swim in the main pool and have lunch before heading back.
Safety first: helmets, life vests and accredited guides
Canyoneering is fun but it is an outdoor adventure sport. Choose operators carefully and follow your guide.
- Use accredited or registered guides. Local governments and tourism offices have worked to regulate canyoneering guides. Ask whether your operator and guides are registered with the local tourism office.
- Always wear a helmet and life vest. Even strong swimmers can be knocked by currents or slip on rocks.
- Listen to the briefing. Guides explain where to jump, how to land, and which areas to avoid.
- Check the weather. Heavy rain can make the river rise quickly and turn the water brown and fast. Trips may be cancelled after storms. Check our Cebu weather page and the official PAGASA website.
- Know your limits. If you have heart, back or neck problems, are pregnant, or can't swim, talk to a doctor and your operator first. This article is general information, not medical advice.
- Wear proper footwear. Water shoes or sandals with straps, not flip-flops.

Best time to go canyoneering in Badian
