Cebu to Boracay: Flights, Ferries and Overland Routes Compared
Flying Cebu to Caticlan is the fastest way to Boracay. Here is how it compares with Kalibo flights and the long sea-and-land route.

In this article
The fastest way to get from Cebu to Boracay is a direct flight from Mactan-Cebu International Airport to Caticlan, followed by a short tricycle ride and a 15-minute boat to the island. Door to door, that can take as little as three to four hours. Flights to Kalibo are a common backup, and there is a slower but scenic sea-and-land route through Negros and Panay for travellers with time to spare.
Here is how each option works, with approximate times and costs.
Cebu to Boracay: Your Options Compared
| Route | Total travel time (approx.) | Approx. cost one way | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flight Cebu–Caticlan + boat | 3-4 hours | PHP 2,000-6,000+ | Speed, short trips |
| Flight Cebu–Kalibo + van + boat | 5-6 hours | PHP 2,000-5,500+ | When Caticlan is full or pricier |
| Flight or ferry to Iloilo + bus + boat | 10-18 hours | PHP 1,500-4,000 | Flexible travellers, combining Iloilo |
| Ferry via Negros (Bacolod) + Iloilo + bus + boat | A long day or more | PHP 1,500-3,500 | Overland adventurers |
All costs are approximate, include typical transfers and fees, and vary widely with season and how early you book. Confirm current fares before travelling.
Option 1: Fly Cebu to Caticlan
Caticlan's airport (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport) sits on mainland Panay, just minutes from the jetty port that serves Boracay. Flights between Cebu and Caticlan are short, roughly an hour in the air. Cebu Pacific has operated this route; check Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines for current schedules, as routes and frequencies change by season.
From Caticlan airport to Boracay
- Take a tricycle or shuttle from the airport to the Caticlan Jetty Port (a few minutes).
- Pay the boat fare, terminal fee and environmental fee at the port.
- Ride the boat to Cagban Port on Boracay (about 15 minutes).
- Take an e-trike or arranged hotel transfer to your accommodation.
Caticlan flights use smaller planes, so baggage limits can be tighter and seats sell out quickly in peak season. Book early, and review our guide to what you can bring on flights.
Option 2: Fly Cebu to Kalibo
Kalibo International Airport, in Aklan, is larger and handles bigger aircraft. Flights from Cebu are sometimes cheaper or more available. The catch is the road transfer: Kalibo to Caticlan takes roughly one and a half to two hours by van or bus.
Many travellers book a combined van-and-boat transfer package in Kalibo, which saves haggling. Budget extra time if you land in the late afternoon, as traffic and boat queues can stretch your arrival into the evening.
Option 3: Sea and Land via Iloilo
If you prefer to avoid flying to Aklan, or want to visit Iloilo on the way, this route works well.
- Cebu to Iloilo. Take a short flight, or an overnight ferry where available. Ferry schedules and operators change, so check current sailings at Cebu's piers.
- Iloilo to Caticlan. Buses and vans from Iloilo City head north to Caticlan. The trip takes roughly five to six hours, depending on the vehicle and traffic.
- Caticlan to Boracay. Boat to Cagban as above.
Iloilo is worth a stop for its food, heritage churches and old houses. If you are coming from Luzon instead, our guide to Manila to Boracay by air, land and sea covers those routes.
Option 4: Overland via Negros and Bacolod
For adventurous travellers, there is a route that crosses three islands.
- Bus from Cebu City to Toledo City on Cebu's west coast.
- Ferry from Toledo to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
- Bus from San Carlos to Bacolod.
- Fast craft from Bacolod to Iloilo (around an hour).
- Bus from Iloilo to Caticlan, then boat to Boracay.
This is a long day or an overnight journey, but it lets you see the Visayas at ground level and try Bacolod's famous chicken inasal on the way. It rarely saves much money compared with a promo flight, so do it for the experience. Use our distance calculator to compare legs.
Approximate Fees on Arrival in Boracay
Boracay has several small fees at the Caticlan port. They change from time to time, so treat these as rough guides.
| Fee | Approximate amount |
|---|---|
| Boat fare Caticlan–Cagban | Around PHP 50-100 |
| Terminal fee | Around PHP 100-150 |
| Environmental fee | Varies; higher for foreign visitors than for Filipinos |
| E-trike to hotel | Around PHP 20-300, shared vs special trip |
Since Boracay's 2018 rehabilitation, visitors may be asked to show a confirmed booking at an accredited accommodation, so keep your reservation handy. Check the Department of Tourism for current visitor rules.
Tips for a Smooth Trip

- Getting to Mactan airport: Allow time for traffic between Cebu City and Mactan. See our guide to airport taxis at Mactan.
- Travel in the dry season (roughly December to May) for calmer seas and sunnier beach days.
- Bring small bills for port fees and tricycles.
