To find the mileage between two cities, start with the straight-line (as-the-crow-flies) distance, then adjust for how you will actually travel: roads wind around mountains, ferries follow sea lanes and flights add airport time. Use our distance tool below for the straight-line figure in kilometres and miles, then check the table for realistic travel times between popular Philippine cities. In an island country, the fastest route is often not the shortest one on the map.

Mileage Between Two Cities: Distance Calculator

Enter any two cities to get the approximate straight-line distance.

To convert between units: 1 kilometre = about 0.621 miles, and 1 mile = about 1.609 kilometres. So 100 km is about 62 miles.

Straight-Line vs Road Distance

The figure most calculators show first is the great-circle distance, the shortest path over the Earth's surface. It is useful for comparing places and estimating flight distance, but it underestimates road trips.

Distance typeWhat it measuresBest used for
Straight-line (great-circle)Shortest path over the Earth's surfaceFlights, quick comparisons
Road distanceActual length of the roads you driveBus and car trips
Sea distanceFerry route between portsBoat trips between islands
Travel timeDoor-to-door time including waitsReal planning

In the Philippines, road distance is often 20 to 50 percent longer than the straight line, and in mountainous areas it can be more. Ferries add waiting time at ports, and flights add check-in and transfers. That is why travel time matters more than mileage when planning.

The figures below are approximate straight-line distances and typical travel times under normal conditions. Schedules, routes and road conditions change, so confirm with your airline, ferry company or bus operator.

RouteApprox. straight-line distanceTypical travel option and time
Manila – Cebu~570 km (~355 mi)Flight about 1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 30 min
Manila – Davao~970 km (~600 mi)Flight about 1 hr 45 min to 2 hr
Cebu – Davao~400 km (~250 mi)Flight about 1 hr to 1 hr 15 min
Cebu City – Tagbilaran (Bohol)~70 km (~45 mi)Fast ferry about 2 hr
Cebu City – Dumaguete~130 km (~80 mi)Bus plus short ferry, roughly 4 to 6 hr
Cebu – Iloilo~150 km (~95 mi)Short flight, or long ferry or land-sea combo
Davao – General Santos~120 km (~75 mi)Bus about 3 to 4 hr
Davao – Cagayan de Oro~190 km (~120 mi)Bus roughly 6 to 8 hr via Bukidnon
Manila – Baguio~200 km (~125 mi)Bus roughly 4 to 6 hr

Straight-line figures are rounded estimates. Travel times exclude check-in, waiting at ports and traffic delays.

How to Estimate Travel Time

By land

Philippine highways mix fast stretches with town centres, tricycles, jeepneys and roadworks. A realistic rule of thumb for long-distance buses is an average of 40 to 60 km/h including stops. Cities like Cebu, Davao and Manila add heavy rush-hour delays, so add extra time if you travel between roughly 7 and 9 a.m. or 5 and 8 p.m.

By sea

Fast craft are much quicker than conventional ferries and roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) vessels, but they are more sensitive to rough seas. Always add time for check-in, terminal fees and boarding. During typhoons, the Coast Guard may suspend trips, so check the PAGASA typhoon signals guide before sailing.

By air

Flight time is only part of the trip. Add travel to the airport, check-in (often 1.5 to 2 hours before domestic flights), boarding and baggage claim. A one-hour flight can easily become a four-hour door-to-door journey. Our guide to cheap flights in the Philippines helps you compare.

World Distances Between Cities

The same method works internationally. Straight-line distance gives you a good idea of flight length, and airlines plan routes close to the great-circle path, though air-traffic rules and winds change it slightly. As a rough rule, jet aircraft cruise at around 800 to 900 km/h, so a 2,000 km straight-line distance usually means a flight of about 2.5 to 3 hours including climb and descent.

Using Distance for Budgeting

Distance affects fuel, fares and how many nights you need. Once you know the route, plug the numbers into our trip budget calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the mileage between two cities?

Use a distance tool to get the straight-line distance, then add 20 to 50 percent for road trips to account for curves and detours. Convert kilometres to miles by multiplying by about 0.621.

What is the distance between Cebu and Davao?

The straight-line distance is roughly 400 km (about 250 miles). Most travellers fly, which takes about an hour, though land-and-sea routes via Leyte and Surigao also exist.

Why is road distance longer than straight-line distance?

Roads follow terrain, coastlines and town centres rather than a straight path. In the Philippines, mountains and islands make the difference especially large.

How far is Manila from Cebu?

The straight-line distance is roughly 570 km (about 355 miles). A direct flight usually takes about an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half.
