Day 1: Davao City Highlights
Morning: People's Park and Downtown
Start at People's Park, a green space in the city centre known for its sculptures inspired by Davao's indigenous peoples, shady walkways and fountains. It is a pleasant spot for a slow morning walk.
From there, head to the San Pedro Cathedral, one of the oldest churches in Davao, with a striking modern facade. Nearby, Museo Dabawenyo offers a good introduction to the city's history and cultures. Check opening days before going.
Afternoon: Shopping and Snacks
Browse Aldevinco Shopping Center for batik, woven fabrics and souvenirs, or head to one of the big malls if you need a break from the heat. Try fresh fruit like pomelo and mangosteen, and if you are brave, durian.
Evening: Jack's Ridge
End the day at Jack's Ridge in the Shrine Hills area, a dining spot known for panoramic views of the city lights. Arrive before sunset for the best views.
Day 2: The Davao Highlands
Leave early, since the highlands are about an hour or more from the city centre depending on traffic.
Morning: Philippine Eagle Center
In Malagos, Baguio District, the Philippine Eagle Center is a conservation and breeding facility for the critically endangered Philippine eagle, the national bird. Seeing one up close is unforgettable. The centre also houses other native birds and animals. Our guide explains how to get to the Philippine Eagle Center.
Midday: Malagos Garden Resort
Next door, Malagos Garden Resort has gardens, a bird show, a butterfly area and a chocolate museum. Davao is known for its cacao, and Malagos is one of the best-known local chocolate makers. Have lunch here or try a tasting.
Afternoon: Eden Nature Park
Eden Nature Park in the Toril area sits high in the hills, with cool air, pine trees and flower gardens. Activities include guided shuttle tours, a skyrider and a zipline, plus a buffet restaurant. It can be a long drive from Malagos, so leave enough time.
If you prefer a quieter day, you can swap Eden for the farms and viewpoints of Marilog District.
Day 3: Samal Island
The Island Garden City of Samal is just across the channel from Davao City.
Getting There
Ferries and barges run frequently from the Sasa area to Samal. Read our full guide on how to reach Samal Island. A bridge linking Davao City and Samal is also in the works, which could change travel options in the future.

Davao is outside the main typhoon belt and has fairly even weather year-round, though afternoon rain is common. August brings the Kadayawan Festival, a great but busy time to visit. Check the Davao weather before you go.
Frequently Asked Questions

Three days is enough for the main highlights: the city, the highlands and Samal Island. Add a day or two if you want to climb Mount Apo or relax longer on the beach.
What is the best order for a Davao itinerary?
Start with the city on day one to get your bearings, do the highlands on day two, and end with Samal on day three. This keeps travel efficient.
How much should I budget for 3 days in Davao?
Budget travellers can manage on roughly PHP 5,500 to 10,500 per person, excluding flights. Mid-range trips cost more, especially with a private car.
Can I visit the Philippine Eagle Center and Eden Nature Park on the same day?
Yes, but start early, as they are in different parts of the highlands. A private car or van makes it much easier.
