The Davao City cemetery rules for Kalag-kalag 2026 ban overnight stays in public cemeteries from Friday, 30 October, to Tuesday, 3 November. According to SunStar Davao, public cemeteries will open only from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the observance, which is the Davao term for All Souls' Day, when families visit their departed.

Who announced the rules and when

SunStar Davao reported on 11 October 2026 that the City Government of Davao released separate guidelines for visitors and vendors in two Facebook posts dated 9 October. The report also said the City Economic Enterprises, headed by Maximo Macalipes Jr., had cleared and cleaned public cemeteries beforehand to give visitors safer access.

Cemetery hours and overnight stays

  • Public cemeteries: open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., no overnight stays, 30 October to 3 November
  • Private cemeteries: may set their own hours and allow overnight stays at management's discretion

If you plan to visit a private memorial park, ask its office directly about hours and rules.

Rules for visitors

SunStar reported these entry rules for public cemeteries:

  • Pedestrians use a single entrance; vehicles follow one entrance and one exit.
  • Visitors are frisked and bags are inspected.
  • Not allowed: drones, firearms, jackets, backpacks, loud music, karaoke, gambling, alcohol and pointed objects.
  • Vagrants, loiterers and scavengers are denied entry.

Rules for vendors

Vendors need a Special Mayor's Permit before selling, and none will be processed once the observance begins. Selling is allowed only between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. in assigned spaces. Liquor, ukay-ukay (secondhand clothes), sharp objects, firecrackers and barbecue-stick food are banned. Violators face permit revocation, confiscation of goods and other penalties under existing laws and ordinances.

Planning your visit

Expect heavy foot and vehicle traffic around the busiest days, so go early in the day. Check the Davao weather forecast before you leave, since late-year rain can arrive suddenly, and see our Davao guide for getting around the city. For other updates, visit our news page.
