It’s a common knowledge that Davao city–as what Mayor Rodrigo Duterte always states–is a dangerous city for criminals. It is indeed a dangerous city for people who commit crimes. Whether you’re a drug peddler, a rapist, thief, a carnapper or a kidnapper: you will be killed.
But there is always the other side of the coin. As what most—if not all-cities in the world have dangerous places, regardless whether it is a peaceful place entirely. You wonder where those criminals live in the city. Where do they operate their illegal acts? Where do they hide their drugs? Where do most crimes take place?
This, however, I want to state on record that I don’t have proofs for this. This is based from what I’ve heard on media and rumors I heard from people I talked to on some occasions.
This should not to be revealed, especially for tourists who are visiting and are going to visit Davao. But it has been always a good thing to know which places to avoid to prevent- a visitor or settler- from being a victim of a crime. You want to avoid places, situations and people that could open doors to danger.
Here are the areas in Davao City that you should avoid:
- Sitio Punta, Barangay 31-D, Boulevard
If you come to pass or even visit Quezon Boulevard, you should avoid this place. This place has been reported by PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) to be a shabu tiangge (drug market). Means this is an area where drug users and dealers do their operation. People who live here are not as a whole dangerous but the place. So there are individuals in the vicinity who are high on drugs.
- Barangay Sasa, Purok 11
There is a village here called Muslim Village. It’s just a name of a village and there is no racial issue being raised here.
This village has also been reported as a shabu small market, an area included in the active illegal drug operation campaign called Oplan Tokhan by DCPO (Davao City Police Office) director Ronald Dela Rosa.
- 23-C, Mini Forest Boulevard
This barangay is the first one to be included in the Oplan Tokhan by Director Dela Rosa. It has also been reported that the Barangay Captain Amilbangsa T. Manding himself is involved in the shabu trade in the area. The Barangay Captain is now hiding from the authorities after Mayor Duterte warned he will do something to the drug peddlers in the area once they’re caught. Means they’re going to be killed.
Although the criminals from these places have already been jailed (or killed) by authorities, it is still wise to avoid these places because they’re still vulnerable for crimes. Secluded places like these are ideal places for criminals to operate.
It is also wise to avoid dark corners in downtown area at night.
