GEN. VICENTE LOOT is the current mayor of one of the municipalities of Cebu. He won last May 9, 2016 elections by a margin of 7 votes. He is now the head executive of Daanbantayan, a municipality in Cebu and one of the richest persons in Cebu right now.

His name was not known to all islands in the Philippines until the less than a month old term of President Rodrigo Duterte dropped bombs in at the event of the Philippine Air Force last July 5 2016. There he named the 5 generals, retired and in service, who are allegedly protecting the drug lords in the country.

The president exposed the names of the 5 generals like he sprayed expletives during his campaigns. He didn’t bat an eye lash or even break a sweat but the audience and the media went like crazy with the exposition of the president. One of the names included in the list was (ret.) Mayor Vicente Loot. Let us get to know him a little more and get used to hearing his name as he is now a national news item.

Vicente Loot is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1982 and proceeded with joining the country’s police force. Through the years of his service he rose to high ranks and held positions like the Central Visayas Regional Anti-Narcotics Office, Cebu Provincial Police Office, Deputy Operations of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) and Deputy Regional Director in Region 8.

In 2009, he was subjected to charges of unexplained wealth and was charged with it. The cases were dismissed though as the evidence was not enough. That year, his declared SALN was at Php 106.7 million. He also listed the following properties:

18 Homes in Mandaue City Cebu

and many more.

He insists that all his wealth comes from his and his wife’s lifetime career savings and joint business ventures. Now, as he now serves as an public official, accusations against him comes live again. This time, no less than the leader of the country is on his tracks.
